The Shop Thornton First campaign is about encouraging Thornton, Colorado residents to spend their purchasing dollars at businesses in the City of Thornton, Colorado whenever possible.
It's important for residents to know that the sales tax dollars collected from these businesses are what helps fund the important City services they rely on. Vital services such as police and fire protection, as well as Thornton's parks and recreation facilities and programs, are primarily funded with sales tax revenue generated by people shopping in Thornton, Colorado.
Each year, the City of Thornton retains a portion of the Vendor Fee in order to be re-invested in programs and services that support Thornton businesses. The Businesses of Thornton Advisory Commission makes recommendations to Thornton City Council regarding programs to be funded through Vendor Fee Revenue and these programs are managed by the Thornton Office of Economic Development. The Shop Thornton First campaign and website are funded by these revenues.
